New club-related photos are always welcomed at our website. To submit your photos, for web publication, please follow these guidelines. (If you get lost in these details, just hand a photo disk to the webmaster.)
• Photos should be of general interest. (See Appendix A.) • Photos should be in a digital format
o That is, in the form of a file whose name ends with .jpg
• Send that file to the webmaster, as an attachment
o If you are not familiar with attachments, see Appendix B. o Do not embed the photos into an e-mail message or WORD document o Your webmaster’s address is paul1meier@msn.com o If you are sending several photos, group them together in a folder, then attach the folder
Otherwise attach each photo, one by one
APPENDIX A Suggestions for selecting photos for publication
The website has limited storage space, so be critical about choosing the few photos that you would like to publish. Ask yourself these questions:
• Is the photo of general interest to club members?
o Are two or more photos almost identical?
If so, please send only the best one
• Is the photo properly exposed (not too dark or too light)?
o Exposure problems can be fixed, with a photo program such as Picture It!
A photo program probably came with your digital camera or PC
• If the picture contains hikers, can you see their faces?
o Too many photos are taken from the rear of the hike o Alert the subjects that they are about to be photographed, and give them time to smile o Get the Guide’s permission to hike slightly ahead of the pack
Wait for the hikers to get near, then snap the picture
• Have you included at least one picture of the terrain?
o Some web postings show only hikers, even though the hike was held in a scenic area.
