Hiking Club Trip to the Chiricahuas - October 27-29, 2008

Itinerary:

Oct. 27 - Leave Sun City at 9:00 AM.  Bring a lunch as we will begin hiking as soon
as we arrive. Hike the Echo Canyon Loop (a moderate to difficult 3.5 miles) – one
of the most scenic experiences in the park.  Hikers who are looking for a bit more
can continue on the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail for an additional 2 miles, which is
described as moderate. Hikers can return to the motel at their leisure. A stop at the
Rex Allen Museum in Willcox is suggested. Hospitality will begin at 5:00 PM
following a short orientation in the meeting room.

Oct. 28 - Leave the motel at 8:00 AM.  (This is a key exchange hike).  Bring a
lunch.  (Lunch can be ordered at the motel the night before or purchased at the
convenience store across the road).  Faster hikers will leave from the Visitors’
Center and ascend 2,000 ft. going thru Rhyolite Canyon to Sarah Deming to Heart
of Rocks to Big Balanced Rock to Inspiration Pt. to Massai Pt. (8.5 miles of mostly
moderate hiking).  Slower hikers will go in reverse and begin at Massai Pt.  If time
permits, a stop at Faraway Ranch on the way back to the motel is suggested. We
will meet in the dining room at 6:00 PM for a brief meeting and Mexican dinner.

Oct. 29 - Leave the motel at 8:00 AM and drive about 40 miles to Fort Bowie. Park
at the trailhead and hike to Stage Station to Visitor Center to Overlook Ridge.
Bring a lunch or stop on your way home.
